You have decided to get a puppy at home, and you logically ask yourself where you are going to take it. In a breeder, a shelter, or an ad on sales or donation sites between individuals. Even though all of these solutions may be valid, it is essential to know why you are getting a dog and what you plan to do with it.

Get a puppy from a breeder

We generally choose to take a puppy from a breeder when you want to take a purebred animal. Breeders generally offer so-called “purebred” dogs whose parents, grandparents and more are known to them. In addition, a puppy from a breeder will most of the time have a pedigree which ensures that the puppy comes from parents of the same breed who have been certified by an examining judge during what is called confirmation. . So, as soon as your puppy has reached the required age, you will be able to have it confirmed in order to be able to subsequently give it litters. Having a dog with a pedigree, also called LOF, will allow you, if you wish, to put him in beauty exhibitions or working competitions in order to bring him titles.

Get a puppy from a shelter or from an individual.

There are many dogs and puppies waiting to be adopted at many shelters. It is not impossible to find a purebred of course, but it is not the first thing you look for when choosing to rescue a dog from a shelter for example. The cost is also a very important factor, because a dog from a shelter or on an advertising site will cost much less than if you took it from a breeder. Very often, we don’t really know which dog to choose and it’s through love that it works. If you want a dog just for the sake of having a dog, then the shelter option is one we highly recommend. A dog will always be happier with a family than in a cage…

Taking a dog, a responsibility!

Choosing to acquire a dog is a very big responsibility. Depending on the breed of dog, he will live between 10 and 15 years on average by your side and during all this time, you will need to be a good owner, essential to having a good dog. This involves several points:

My point of view, but it’s just my opinion. A dog is a full member of the family. You will do for him what you would do for one of your children. Unlike a child, he will never talk to you (Well if that ever happens, I advise you to consult :P). It will therefore be up to you to detect any needs regarding him and understand his actions in order to adapt or change what needs to be changed. Some dog breeds are more stubborn than others, patience and a virtue you will need to demonstrate. Train, a dog goes through repetition. By doing something, he will learn to do it, but this also applies to stupid things, don’t forget that.

Remember that a dog will pick up bad habits more easily than good ones. So, if you make him get on the bed or sofa, even just a few times, it will be difficult to stop him later. Develop good habits from the start.

The dog is man’s best friend, there is no doubt about it! Try in turn not to forget him, and to consider him too as your best friend. You will learn over time that there is no one more faithful than him and you will discover something very rare in our time, what we call, unconditional love.
